Greetings fellow paddlers,

We are planning a Sunset Paddle for Saturday, June 20th from 5:30pm until 9:30pm from the Neck Rd. boat launch at Mountain Island Lake. The launch site is on the left before you get to the boat ramp. The pin is roughly in the correct location on the map below. Unfortunately, we will not have rental kayaks available for this event.

Make sure you bring what you need on the day of our paddle. This list will be different for everyone, but here are some things to consider: Water, food/snacks, sunscreen, flashlight, flashlight that straps on head, binoculars (there are lots of Blue Herons, turtles, etc), camera, waterproof phone float, hat, sunglasses, water shoes, etc. I will have red, green, and white safety lights for you to strap to your kayak for visibility.

This kayak event will be perfect for all levels of kayaker. We will set a leisurely pace and only pick it up if everyone is wanting to cover more distance. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can launch at 5:30. If the water is high enough, there is a beautiful natural area off the main channel we may be able to explore. If not, we can paddle to the sand bar. We will watch the sunset not far from where we launch and then head back to the cars.

To find the location, type Neck Road Boat Ramp into Google Maps. Please note the address does not work on Apple Maps. Duke Access Rd. Huntersville NC, 28078 should come up as the address. If another address comes up, it is the wrong address. We will meet at the first entrance to your left and not at the actual boat ramp. If you are at the boat ramp and cannot find the beach area, you can see it over to your left from the dock.

Launch Coordinates:
35.370600, -80.933544
Copy and paste coordinates into your web browser and select “map” to get a map and directions to the exact location.

Feel free to start a discussion or email me with any suggestions or concerns. You may be able to bring a few guests, but please email me in advance so the size of our group stays manageable. I will attempt to check the messages here on the meetup site about 15 minutes prior to launching. I can't guarantee I will be able to get cell service from the area, but I will definitely try. I'm looking forward to getting out on the water with everyone!

Frank
