Access to Walkway State Historic Park is free of charge, although there is a $5 fee to park in the New York State parking lots on Parker Avenue (in Poughkeepsie) and Haviland Road (in Highland)
Walkway State Historic Park boasts a glass-enclosed, 21-story elevator that has already welcomed over 200,000 riders! The entrance to the elevator is located at Upper Landing
Basic amenities include restroom facilities at each end of the bridge, signage at the entrances and along the walkway, and “Talkway Over the Walkway,” a guide by cellphone audio tour.
Household pets only; must be on a leash not more than 6 feet long. Retractable leashes are highly discouraged.
Take Amtrak (http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=am/am2Station/Station_Page&code=POU) or the Hudson Line (http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm) to the Metro North Poughkeepsie Station.
Free Shuttle: Show your Metro-North ticket at Mahoney's Irish Pub and Steakhouse (845-471-7026) or River Station (845-452-9207), popular eateries across from the Poughkeepsie Station, for a 20% discount off your meal. Then hop on the free Walkway shuttle that Mahoney's Irish Pub and Steakhouse provides to its patrons. The shuttle will return you to the train after your walk on the Walkway.
Taxi: Taxis are available at the Poughkeepsie Station and the Walkway is just a 5-minute ride from the station.
