Rally to Save the River!

Details

PLEASE JOIN US AND ALERT ALL BOATERS! Read the entire post before joining. This is a rally for the Hudson & not a paddle.

Locations for launch: All Sea Kayakers in 14' or longer kayaks please meet at George's Island, Albany Post Rd, Montrose. We will paddle north approximately 1.25 miles to Verplanck, meet the others in our group, land- have lunch and then re-enter our kayaks for the rally.

Those in kayaks shorter than 14' please launch from 26 Riverview Ave, Verplanck, NY. Wait for us to get there near the water.

We will meet at 12:05 pm to be ready to launch into the water to paddle north to the rally. Those launching from George's island can unload their boats on the side of the ramp and then park their cars. Those launching from Verplanck know that parking is limited so get there early. Tides @ Peekskill: Hi 11:44 am 2.92', Lo 6:40 pm 0.13'. Do not paddle alone, safety in numbers.

We will be using our radios on channel 69. Please bring your radio.

Weather update: anticipated air temperature 61 - 64 F, water temp 52 F, wind 4-5 kts with gusts up to 9 kts. This is still cold shock weather, please wear wet/dry suits, skins. Skirts recommended. Have a dry top or windbreaker with you. Please pack a change of clothes in a dry bag and put it in your hatch.

The goal is to have as many boaters as possible on the river for the rally @ 2pm. All size and type of boats are welcome as long as you wear your PFD, are dressed for immersion, know how to assist and self rescue. We will paddle to the Cortlandt Waterfront Park a short distance north and wait for the rally to begin. Bring a change of clothes in a dry bag, pack water, food etc.

If you can't paddle, join us on land at 77 Riverview Ave, Verplanck for the rally.

Town Town of Cortlandt is partnering with organizations and communities along the Hudson river to oppose Holtec's plan to dump 1 million gallons of radioactive spent nuclear rod pool water into the Hudson river. This is part of the decommissioning process, in which the water that remains in the pools after the radioactive rods are removed, must be disposed of. Holtec has decided that the most expeditious way is to dump it into the beautiful Hudson River.

Officials at all levels of Government (Federal, State, County & local) will attend along with representatives from Riverkeeper, Clearwater etc. There will be entertainment from solo artists including Dar Williams, Tom Paxton & others. There will be food trucks.

In case of inclement weather the rally will take place on Sunday. If you are paddling with Liquid Skies you will be asked to sign a waiver.
