Saugatuck River launch thru the Norwalk Islands & lighthouses!

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POSTING BEFORE SIGNING UP!

Please arrive early to get yourself situated. We will launch promptly at 10:45 am. Do not block the launch area, stage your boats on the side.

This is not a beginner paddle. We will go to Peck's Ledge light and access the conditions and after lunch we can break up into 2 groups with a moderate paced group going back with George (6-8 mile paddle) and a smaller faster 3 mph group going with me to Sheffield Light house (14 miles). You must be able to paddle at a pace with the group. Please stay in a pod and DO NOT GO AHEAD of the leader or lag behind the sweep.

Sea kayaks only 14' minimum, NO canoes, SOT's SUP's, Inflatables, Rafts or pets allowed. Surfskis Ok. Dress for immersion, pack sunscreen, lunch, water, meds anything you need for a day trip, a change of clothes, rain jacket, drytop etc. in a dry bag and put it in your hatch. PFD'S MUST be worn & fastened at all times. No exceptions.

This is a very scenic paddle thru islands, lighthouses so lets enjoy it.

Keep in mind that swells, currents, wind, tides, and other natural factors not found in inland venues will require vigilance and an honest self-assessment of your skills and conditioning before you decide to venture out. This is a gathering of people enjoying a common interest, not a guided tour, so your personal safety is your responsibility alone.

The DEEP Saugatuck state boat ramp is on Elaine Road in Westport, CT. Use 4 Elaine Road (which is the address of the Westport waste treatment plant) on your GPS, pass the plant on your left, and the animal shelter on your right. The road bends sharp right, and the driveway to the boat launch itself is immediately on the left. Parking is free, but we should also park nose-to-tail in the slots to avoid taking up too many spaces. There is a porta-potty there too. If you park behind someone make sure you will be paddling the same distance to not hold them up.
