The Shepaug dam is an observatory area for viewing bald eagles. It is located on the Housatonic River by Lake Lillinoah where we kayak in nicer weather. Their 40th season starts Dec 24 through March 15, 2026 from 9 am till 1 pm, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only.

A reservation is REQUIRED but free. You MUST BOOK A RESERVATION in order to attend. Reservations are for 1-8 people traveling in 1 vehicle. Google Shepaug Eagle Viewing and follow their link on the website to make a reservation. They are open 9am-1pm. You can also find out more information or their FB site Shepaug Dam Bald Eagles. We will be seeing Christine's Critters birds of prey at 10:00 am.

Do not sign up here until you have your reservation. Everyone starts on the waitlist. Once you have your reservation please post it in the comments center below and I will move you to going.

Meet us at the viewing center at 9:15 am. We can see the eagles and then watch Christine's Critters.

After the eagle viewing those who want can join us to snowshoe @ the Audobon Center Bent of the River, 185 E Flat Hill Rd, Southbury, CT 06488 nearby (9 minute drive) and very scenic. Please pack a lunch, snack, water etc. These events are outdoors & cold so dress accordingly. Conditions could be muddy so wear appropriate shoes. Hopefully we will see many eagles.

Please only sign up if you are going, please be kind.
The weather forecast may be snowing, if so the Center may close. Call them in the morning if not sure, they open at 7:00 am (860) 895-6468 to check if they are open.
