Details
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE SIGNING UP!
Lasher Park is at the end of Anchorage Rd. Unload kayaks in the parking lot or in the grass away from the ramp. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE RAMP. Bring a cart/wheels if you have them.
DETAILS:
We'll launch at 11:30 am to make high tide at Ramshorn Creek. Tides at Tivoli: Hi 12:58 pm, 3.8', Low 7:22 pm, 0.2'; Tides at Hudson: Hi 2:06 pm, 3.8', Low 8:30 pm 0.2'. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY ENOUGH TO GET YOURSELF READY. This event is tide dependent and we will not wait. There may not be a porto pottie at the park but the Stewarts Shop at the corner of 9G & Main St. in Germantown has a public restroom.
We head North and will cross the Hudson to Ramshorn-Livingston Sanctuary (a tidal creek) that winds thru for about a mile. Many bird species as well as beaver and other wildlife frequent this area. We'll stop for a lunch break. The takeout is a small dock. We'll help each other get out on the dock & move the boats out of the way. We can have lunch & check out the observation tower.
On our way back south we'll cross over to our side and go into the Roeliff Jansen Kill, a major tributary of the Hudson that was the traditional boundary between the Native American Mahican and Wappinger tribes. Roeliff Jansen Kill is less that 2 miles from the launch, so if you're tired you can always go directly back to Lasher Park.
Total distance to be covered approximately 9.5+ miles.
Kayaks must be 14' minimum, no SOT's, Inflatables, surf ski's ok. You should know how to assist/self rescue and be able to paddle 10+ miles at a pace. Everyone is responsible for themselves. The Hudson can get choppy at times, know your limitations. No pets. Pack a change of clothes, lunch, water, anything you need for a day trip. Dress for immersion.
No pets are allowed on Liquid Skies trips.
If you haven't paddled with us this season yet, please sign a waiver. Please be kind.
My cell if needed (845) 548-2198.
Check back the Friday before for a weather update.
This paddle is open to MHADK members.
