Project to Open the Fishkill Creek for Paddling!
Details
This is not a Liquid Skies event but we will benefit from it and need your help. Please try to join at least 1 day.
Please note the Location & time will be given to you when you contact Russ.
The Fishkill Creek Watershed Alliance, under Sergei Krasikov, has committed to opening a canoe/kayak water trail on the Fishkill Creek, which flows from Hopewell Jct to near Beacon, NY. There are short sections one can paddle, but blowdowns limit the paddler.
The Fishkill Creed is a quiet-water, with no beaver dams and no whitewater (except for a Class 1+ in the Village of Fishkill). The creek could offer the paddler a serene, rejubenating experience of many miles. There are many sections where one gets the sense that they are far away in the wild. In reality, the creek flows through a mainly suburbanized area. It is an exciting idea to build a long water trail here.
**We are looking to assemble work parties on Sat, June 27th & Sun, June 28th. We hope that you will join us on at least one of these days. Meeting, time, location & driving directions will be sent if you contact Russell Faller @ RussOutdoors @ yahoo.com.**
We will be working with the idea of safety first. This means we want you to do only what you can do, knowing your own strength & capabilities. We will never be using chainsaws, so please do not bring one. You can bring handsaws, work gloves, loppers & rope. If you haave a Come-Along, that could be useful. Handsaws & loppers will be the tools we'll use the most. If you need some of these tools, we have some to loan.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in this project, please forward this to them.
If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Russ. I look forward to hearing from you. Russ
