Practical Navigation - gettin' the'ah, from he'ah
Details
Hello folks!
I've been running some Instructor- and Coastal Leader-level courses recently, and have discovered that there's a pretty big hole in the ACA curriculum: Navigation.
Many folks (I hope) know how to find Magnetic North with a hiker's compass... but how about finding True North? How about reading a chart, or utilizing navigation tools to plan an awesome trip for yourself (when Linda and George aren't around, of course)? How about navigating when you're on the water? So...
I'd like to invite folks to a two-day course on practical Navigation. This will be a limited-size class - no more than eight people. Some gear will be available to borrow (hiker's compasses); some gear will be required and available for purchase ahead of time if you don't have it (kayak deck compass, specific charts).
The course will have an on-land day, followed by an on-water day. You will need to have gear appropriate for a day on the water, with one major stop for lunch - this means all the regular safety equipment you carry, etc.
There are two pricing options:
- $200 for folks that have their own deck compasses and chart of the Thimble Islands (https://www.landfallnavigation.com/noaa-nautical-chart-12373-north-shore-of-long-island-sound-guilford-harbor-to-farm-river.html) - if you buy your own, consider getting the one on waterproof paper; it's a little more expensive (not much), and so much nicer than regular paper.
AND
- $300 for folks who do not have those items and would prefer that I purchase those items for them for delivery at the course. Bear in mind that I'm not making any money buying these for folks; I'm merely doing folks a favor. If you want to get those items yourself and "save" $100, great - but REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE MANDATORY - and the charts can take a couple of weeks or more to arrive. Please plan ahead! If you do not have them, you will not be able to fully participate in this course - and since I'm telling you ahead of time, this is on you - not me.
You cannot sign up for this two-day course, here. To sign up, please contact me directly at "liquidskykayaking@gmail.com". We can discuss which fee option you'd like, and go from there.
I look forward to getting on the water with all of you, and assisting you in figuring out how to get from he'ah... to the'ah...
