What we’re about
This meetup is for all those interested in the Effective Altruism or Rationality communities.
Effective Altruism is a movement that focuses on making our altruistic efforts as impactful as possible. For more information, visit our website!
The Rationality community is concerned with self improvement, decision making, and overcoming bias. Here's a quick primer.
This is primarily a social group for likeminded people. We have a book club and periodic movie nights, outings, and we celebrate a secular Summer/Winter solstice together. However, we also try to apply the above principles to improve the world in whatever small way we can.
Even if you aren't familiar with these communities, or think you aren't a "typical" Rationalist/EA, or if you think you would be awkward or something, please don't hesitate to join! We'd love to have you.

Come join us for a meetup themed around the Astral Codex Ten blog!
You don't have to be familiar with the blog to join. Also, don't worry about whether you will "fit in", or if you will be awkward, or if you aren't "smart enough" or whatever; all are welcome!
If you are familiar with the blog, bring your favorite blog post or related discussion topic! Also, while not necessary, bringing any food or drinks for the cookout potluck-style would be appreciated. I will provide materials for cooking.
Kids are welcome as well!
We will be located at the stone tables by the playground, to the right of the entrance. Text me at 816-541-6685 if you have any questions.
- 'Hammertime' self improvement workshopNeeds location
Over the course of June, we will be going through the 30 day 'Hammertime' self improvement series. Each day aims to teach a Rationality/self improvement technique.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a systemized list of all your most important problems, a toolkit for solving them, and a meta-framework for knowing which tool to use on which kind of problem.
We will do an in-person meetup once a week to review our progress, then to prepare for the next 7 days. We might do periodic video calls throughout the week, depending on if people are interested in that.
