Our June KCDesignCore meeting has traditionally included two big things: (1) a Photo Walk, in which everyone brings digital cameras and does some photography of a chosen subject, and (2) our big semi-annual Adobe software giveaway.

This year is no exception! (well, I guess there's one exception...)

Instead of turning everyone loose on an area of town to shoot buildings and architecture (we've done the Crossroads, the P&L District, and Cosentino's Market) -- this year we're going to try something different: shooting photographs that will allow us to give back to the community. We have worked out an evening at the Kansas City Community Kitchen at 750 Paseo.

Read about the KC Community Kitchen Here... (http://www.episcopalcommunity.org/pages/kcck.html)

It will be "prep night" at the KCCK as they prepare to serve 400-600 people a healthy lunch during the noon hour on Friday.

Kitchen manager Erika Rucker, and Executive Director John Hornbeck, will chat with us about the Community Kitchen and how it works -- and will give you the green light to wander around and shoot volunteers doing food prep, the kitchen and supplies in storage, the building, the neighborhood, and the people who are working (we are hoping to get permission from some "actual clients" who would be willing to allow us some access as well).

The Community Kitchen is a tremendous help to hundreds of homeless and "working poor" who eat there every day. Giving them some of our best photography will allow them to further promote and explain their work online and in print.

After the shoot, we'll re-gather in the dining area to collect your best work and give away $2,100 worth of Adobe software while we're copying all those contributions for the KC Community Kitchen to use.

Don't worry if you are inexperienced or using a cell phone camera in lieu of a fancy rig - we've always gotten some great materials using all types of cameras!

Get this on your calendar, charge up your batteries, format your memory cards, and be ready to shoot some great photos for an organization that is very busy feeding the hungry and doesn't have the time or staff to get great photos.

We'll see you Thursday night, June 7!
