What we're about

This group started meeting, learning and geeking out together over 15 years ago! If you want to learn about the PHP programming language, hone your public speaking skills or network with Kansas City developers, this is your local PHP community!

Serving the entire Kansas City metro and neighboring cities, group members range from beginner developers, hobbyists, seasoned professionals and everyone in between.

We offer two meetings each month: 1) Presentations on the first Wednesday night at Stowers Institute in Kansas City, MO; 2) Open and casual discussion on the third Saturday at Black Dog Coffeehouse in Lenexa, KS. See the Upcoming Meetups section for details.

We welcome any and all attendees with no obligation to engage. If you're more comfortable sitting back and listening more than talking, that's great! Come hang out.

Our regular members are here to answer your questions on things like Laravel, Symfony, WordPress, Drupal and Magento. Many also touch everything from frontend JavaScript frameworks to server administration.

Speakers for Wednesday night presentations and lightning talks are welcome. Contact a group admin through Meetup.

Saturday Meeting Format Our Saturday meetings are free-formed. Attendees bring up topics that interest them or that they want feedback on. Attendees are welcome to participate or just kick back and soak in the discussions. There are also no dumb questions! If you're just starting out this is a great opportunity to ask questions. The meeting structure usually follows this format: * Introductions / meet and greet new members * Open group discussion on any development topic, concern or question; discussing any new happenings that interest the group * Get help setting up your development environment, looking at code, quick demos, etc. (time permitting) All levels welcome! Maybe you have been using using PHP for a week or even a decade--we all have things to learn and share. If you enjoy working with PHP, or want to learn more about it this meeting is for you. Get Involved If you're looking for a presentation-focused event with talks and demos, check out our weeknight meetups. We would also love to have you present! Please contact an organizer through Meetup or talk after a meeting to tell us more about your topic.

Presentation Meetup - Advent of Code

Online event

Eric Poe will share about recent PHP community news. Then John Kary will guide us in a holiday-themed group programming exercise following AdventOfCode.com! No programming experience or laptop required to participate. Promise! Just your brain and problem solving skills. https://adventofcode.com/2020 Advent of Code is an Advent calendar of small programming puzzles for any skill set and skill level using any programming language. You don't need a computer science background to participate - just a little programming knowledge and some problem solving skills will get you pretty far. Nor do you need a fancy computer; every problem has a solution that completes in at most 15 seconds on ten-year-old hardware. Light refreshments will be provided. We love Web Development and all things PHP. Our meetings are often a little free-formed, but we shoot for this schedule: 6:00pm - Mingling / Meet and Greet 6:15pm - Lightning Talk: * Last Month in PHP 6:30pm - Advent of Code (mob programming). Bring a laptop if you'd like to share your solutions in the language of your choice. If you are interested in speaking or would like to suggest a future topic please suggest one: (http://www.meetup.com/kcphpug/suggestion/) All Developers and Non-Developers Welcome! We understand Web Developers often come from all backgrounds, and many work in more languages than PHP. Whether you're curious and just starting out, dabble in PHP on the weekends, write custom PHP on a daily basis, work in a framework like Symfony, Laminas, Laravel, Slim, Laravel, CakePHP or customize CMS products like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla; our goal is that you will find something new, useful and thought provoking.
