Illness, Disability, and Aging as Path for Growth
with Lynn Fuentes, J.D., Ph.D.
When things go wrong with us, as when we get a chronic illness, become disabled, or simply deal with the aging process, the first thoughts we have about it are rarely positive ones. Most likely we fret about how we will handle the challenges emotionally, what we won’t be able to do physically, what it will mean for our relationships, and so on. However, as we have seen through the transparent lens that Terry Patten has so bravely provided us, chronic conditions can also provide us with a new opportunity for growing up and waking up.
In this workshop, we’ll look at how the integral models offer us ways to navigate these particularly disorienting human dilemmas and can help us to shift our perspective from tragedy to transcendence.
