  • Dear Integral Community,
  • We are pleased to invite you to a unique gathering of like-minded individuals for an enlightening talk by esteemed author and teacher Keith Martin-Smith.
  • Topic: Zen, Integral, and Shadow - A Path to Freedom with Keith Martin-Smith
  • Beware of the spiritual teacher who thinks he or she is beyond shadow work. And beware the student who thinks their teacher is beyond it – they have set the stage for scandal, abuse, and the creation of a cult.
  • It seems reasonable that the teachers of spirituality should know better, act more ethically, and be more transformed — be more adult — in their shadows than the rest of us. After all, what's the point of being a so-called spiritual master if you can’t keep it in your pants?
  • But what is the relationship to awakening and shadow? Does "awakening" mean fully awakening a human being, shadows and all?
  • Keith Martin-Smith has come to understand this position — that enlightenment transforms psychological shadows — is impossible, self-deceptive, and highly destructive to both teachers and their students. To understand why, we need to understand two things better: shadow and awakening.
  • Saturday’s talk and Q&A will be a lively dive into scandal, awakening, the kinds of shadows we have, and why even the most enlightened humans who ever lived still have psychological shadows.
