Western Sichuan is a place where dramatic mountain ranges meet tranquil alpine lakes, ancient forests, and vast plateaus. It offers some of China’s most breathtaking highland scenery.
Our journey begins with a stunning drive from Chengdu to Mount Siguniang. Along the way, we stop at the Maobiliang Viewpoint, a famous spot offering panoramic vistas of Mount Siguniang's four majestic snow-capped peaks.
We explore and hike Changping Valley, widely regarded as the best way to appreciate the beauty of Mount Siguniang.
Continuing deeper into the plateau, we enjoy a scenic ride to Dangling. Here, we hike to pristine alpine lakes, including Hulu Lake or Cuo Yongcuo Lake.
One of the highlights of the journey is the hike to the Daofu Milk Sea, a lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense forests. It is one of Western Sichuan’s most underrated yet scenic spots.
We hike to a true hidden gem, Hehuahai Lake near Kangding, a less-visited side of Western Sichuan.
On the journey back, we will have a quick stop to visit the iconic Zheduo Mountain Observation Deck where you can admire the "King of Sichuan mountains", Minya Konka.
If time permits, we stop at the Red Sea Lake, a stunning alpine lake known for its vivid seasonal colours.
Accommodation will be in a mix of ho(s)tels and local homestays. The hotel in Kangding has its own hot spring.
This is a multiple day event without the need to carry a heavy backpack. A day pack will do as luggage will be taken care of. The hikes itself are rated as easy/moderate but will take place at higher altitudes (approximately 3,000–4,200 m asl). They certainly are suited for 'less experienced' hikers provided you are physically fit.
Although there are no organised activities on Day 1, make sure to arrive in Chengdu on Day 1 as we have booked accommodation in Chengdu for that night.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a gps navigation app (like ~in alphabetical order~ AllTrails (paid version), Gaia, Hiiker, Komoot, Maps me, OSMAnd, Wikiloc,...) installed on your phone and make sure that it is working properly. If you don't have an app installed yet, we suggest to use Hiiker to start with. Once you have downloaded the offline map of China, you can easily import and navigate any gpx file. More info can be found in the Knowledge Base sub Event Information (general) - How to prepare myself for navigation...?
Do not come to the venue if you have not pre-installed a gps navigation app at home, or have not downloaded the map of China at home, or have not opened the test gpx file at home. Especially iPhone users are urged to make sure that they can open the test gpx file at home and are able to navigate.

IMPORTANT: keep in mind that there is always a chance that we are not allowed to hike due to dangerous weather or other conditions (eg heavy rain, flood, earthquake, landslide, health measures...) - we cannot be held responsible for such cancellation.
