What we're about

The purpose of a “Knowledge Café” is to bring people together in an effort to learn from each other. The learnings are directly applied to make a positive difference in the world. Knowledge Cafés are mini-workshops where the participants engage in the theme of the evening. They are about networking, knowledge sharing and learning from each other – as opposed to presentations with questions-and-answer at the end. The presenter offers a short introduction, followed by 3 rounds of small group conversation. The night ends with a large group discussion.

The outcome for the participants is individual choice. It is often something that each individual views differently, that they can act on and do differently - immediately!
These cafes are directly based on David Gurteen’s large and long standing global community. More information available at http://www.gurteen.com/gurteen/gurteen.nsf/id/kcafes

* Lori is back! If you might recall, we were scheduled to have this cafe back in June, but unfortunately had to shift the timing. Now we're ready!

You know you can’t let that knowledge walk out the door, so what are you going to do about it? A newbie’s journey to capture the critical knowledge of two 30-year employees.

People are always on the move, which means that there is constant churn in the workplace. Whether changing roles, changing companies, or retiring, when someone moves on their knowledge often goes out the door with them. In some cases, the risk of key knowledge loss is low. In others, an expert’s departure runs the risk of negatively impacting not only a team, but potentially an entire company. Join me on my journey of pitching, planning for, and launching Erie Insurance Group’s inaugural knowledge transfer initiative to retain the critical knowledge of two long-time employees.

Lori Nikolishen (she/her) is a knowledge management consultant on a team that is working to establish KM services at Erie Insurance Group. She holds a B.A. in English from the Pennsylvania State University and is certified in KM, usability analysis, and change management. Lori has years of technical writing, communications, and freelance writing experience and a new-found passion for everything KM.

A native of Erie, PA, she is a fan of any activity that gets her outdoors. Lori enjoys winemaking, crafting, live music, and road trips. She left Erie a few times to explore other cities, but kept finding her way back home where she has now sprung permanent roots.

Join us for the free monthly Knoweldge Cafe where we'll follow the Gurteen Knowledge Cafe (Conversational Leadership Cafe) process. Lori will offer her perspectives for 15 minutes, then we'll have 3 rounds of small group breakout discussions, then we'll close with a full group discussion.

Thank you, see you soon!
