MA Korean Language & Culture Group Pages

MA Korean Language Group is open to anybody in the greater Boston area who is interested in the Korean language and culture. While this group is intended for learning Korean, we have speakers of other Asian languages such as Chinese and Japanese too. Our meeting is truly multi-cultural, with conversation happening in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese. If you speak one of these languages and if you are interested in the Korean language and culture, we are positive that you will have fun in this group. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

MA Korean Language Group mission statement, policies and rules

MA Korean Language Group is open to anybody who is interested in the Korean language and culture. The mission of this group is to provide members with fun and safe environment to meet people with the same interest. All activities in this group are done on a non-profit basis. We intend to keep this group as open and casual as possible. Therefore, we restrict our group policies and rules to the following very basic ones.

To be a member, you will need to go to our Meetup® website http://korean.meetup.... and create a profile and introduce yourself. Any profile with no introduction will be deleted periodically. The reason why this is done is stated on http://korean.meetup....

This group engages in non-profit meetings and activities with the intention solely to promote friendship and cultural/ linguistic exchange of participating members. Any commercial activities within the group are strictly prohibited. With the exceptions of collecting the actual cost of food/beverages incurred in the meetings and any voluntary contributions made to the management of the group, no fees shall be collected from the members.

The regular meeting is generally held on the first Saturday of the month at a location announced only to the members registered on the Meetup® website. The monthly meeting is open to all members of the group. There are also additional sporadic spin-off BBQ parties, excursions, movie nights etc. The regular attendees of the group’s monthly meetings receive prioritized invitations for these spin-off meetings because of the space limitation.

The mission of this group is to promote friendship and cultural/linguistic exchange of participating members regardless of their nationalities, linguistic, cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds. With the mission of our group as such, it is expected that members refrain from making comments and discussions that are considered to be offensive to or attacking/criticizing any particular nationalities, people from particular linguistic, cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds. What is considered offensive or attacking/criticizing can sometimes be a subjective matter. However, as a group, we have our own commonly shared unwritten standards. The group has the right to warn, suspend or disqualify any member if our group policies and rules are not observed.

As this is a non-profit group managed and operated by a small number of volunteers, successful meetings depend largely on your participation and cooperation. Please make sure to RSVP for our meeting at least a couple of days in advance on our Meetup® website. Please try your best to come on time to the venue. This is especially important when the venue is a restaurant and a reservation has been made for the meeting. Please make sure to research on the transportation to the venue on your own. It is your responsibility to arrive at the venue on time safely.

As you can see above, the policies and rules in this group come from the common sense.

Simply put, the rules are;

1. Introduce yourself when you join the group.
2. Do not make money from the group.
3. Regular meeting is normally held on the first Saturday of the month.
4. Be nice to other members.
5. Plan and show up on time on your own.

Again, it is our intention to keep this group as open and casual as possible. We believe the common sense rules stated above are already practiced by most members. However, with the increasing number of new members joining the group, we took this opportunity to reiterate them formally. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
