Details

Hello fellow Kotliners!

We happily announce the next episode of our meetup! This time it will be special - we will have a summer edition with BerlinDroid together!

Line-Up:

First Talk:
"How playing poker can make you a better agile team"
by Ivett Ördög

Imagine a world where teams deploy every few minutes, and every deployment is a high-stakes bet. Welcome to Lean Poker, a unique platform that gamifies learning the principles of Agile and Continuous Deployment, transforming them into an exciting, competitive event. The fast pace of Lean Poker means that teams gain years worth of war stories in just 8 hours.
In this talk, we will share these real-life war stories from Lean Poker teams, recounting their challenges, triumphs, and the invaluable lessons they learned in the process. We will be exploring how this event fosters rapid adaptation, efficient use of continuous deployment pipelines, and the creation of quick wins from larger ideas.
Whether you're a developer or a team lead this talk will offer you a fresh perspective on Agile principles.

Second Talk:
"Configuration Management in Kotlin: The Basics"
by Karin-Aleksandra Monoid

The engineers are dealing with configs like tokens, server URL, profiles etc. But what would be the best way to store them in your new project? Right in the code? In an external config file? Somewhere else? In this live coding session we’ll try to figure out which criteria is the most important for various setups and which trade-offs do we face. And, of course, in Kotlin.

Speaker BioL

Karin-Aleksandra Monoid:
Karin is a Senior Software Engineer with background in various programming languages and a Google Developer Expert. Currently she is specializing in Kotlin and advocating for functional programming (the good parts!). She probably tried your favorite backend language on frontend (Scala.js and Kotlin/JS).

Ivett Ördög
Ivett Ördög is an engineering manager at Contentful. She is based in Berlin, Germany and has over 15 years of experience in software development and leadership. She is also a public speaker and a creator of Lean Poker, a gamified devops training tool that teaches agile, lean and continuous deployment practices to developers. Furthermore, she is passionate about innovation, collaboration and learning, and enjoys sharing her knowledge and insights with others. She also runs a YouTube channel called Leaders Workshop, where she helps aspiring engineering leaders to grow their skills and confidence through practical advice and real-life stories.

Additional Info

We will provide BBQ essentials (meaning cheese, sausages and pure vegan alternative). Anything beyond that should be provided by you and also ready to be shared.
