Upper Cannell Trail from Mosquito Meadow to Sherman Pass Vista Point

Details

Let's explore Mosquito Meadow
Length: approx 6 miles RT
Elevation Gain: 400 ft net (trail climbs ridges and drops to meadows)
This hike starts at 8,800 feet elevation and ascends to 9,200 feet.

This out and back trail features three forest meadows located along the Durwood Fault as it ascends to the Sherman Pass Vista Point. The trail is in the forest with a lot of shade. Ruby Jenkins wrote that this active fault zone extends north past Big Meadow and formed several saddles and sag ponds, which are now meadows. We will hike along Mosquito Meadow, Round Mdw and Durwood Mdw.

We will meet at James Sierra Gateway Market in Kernville at 9:00am and caravan to Mosquito Meadow. Our route follows Mountain 99, right onto Sherman Pass Road, right onto the poorly paved Forest Service road 22S19. 22S19 ends after 3 miles and we will park in the fire safe clearing and start our hike there. We'll step off the trail if we see any bicyclists speeding our way down the trail.

After hiking & admiring the view, and taking pictures, we will decide where along the trail we would like to eat lunch and return the way we came.

Hiking Safety Rule: If you are sick in any way, please stay home. We are not equipped to render medical aid and the closest medical help is two hours away.

Thank you for your understanding and willingness to help us all be as safe as possible on the trails.
Sincerely,
Kern Valley Hiking Club Co-organizers
