Bull Run Pass Trail Maintenance
Details
Stewards of the Sequoia is a motorcycle volunteer organization that maintains many of the trails we hike. This is an opportunity to do our part by brushing the upper 3 miles of this trail. They will provide lightweight loping shears, telescoping shears and pruning shears. The plan is the work as we hike up the trail.
KVHC has not hiked this part of the Bun Run trail, as far as I know. This trail is near Upper Tobias Creek trail, so the terrain is similar. The photo is of the Tobias Peak Lookout. The section we will work and hike lies between the paved Sugar Loaf Rd (FS 23S16) and the top of Bull Run Pass. Some of us may take the detour to the Lookout on the way back to the cars.
Sections of the trail are near a creek and there are several creek crossings. The headwaters of Bull Run Creek are near this trail and this is the same creek that crosses the Whiskey Flat trail in Kernville, under the stone bridge. Bull Run Creek takes a very crooked path down to Kernville, however, we will head up in the opposite direction, towards Bull Run Pass, where we will enter the Sequoia National Monument. Unfortunately, there are not any sequoias in this section of the monument.
