Camping & Hiking @ Yellowstone or Glacier [Flexible Dates]

Details

Hi,

If anyone...

doesn't have summer vacation plans yet

has Glacier NP on their bucket list

has Yellowstone NP on their bucket list

or

loves nature, wildlife, outdoors, etc. -- and has some free time in August

...then here's a 2-part idea for a possible trip.

Your choice:

Option 1 - Glacier NP in Montana, around August 14 - 17, 18, or 19

and/or

Option 2 - Yellowstone NP in Wyoming, around August 21 - 24, 25, or 26

To repeat, this is a flexible trip -- like choosing off a menu what you want (and don't want).

For this, I posted August 21 - 24 for Yellowstone because it's a little more organized compared to August 14 - 17 for Glacier, but everyone can decide for themselves on what they want to do, where they want to go, and when.

More will be explained in a separate Google Doc.

A few of us went to Yellowstone & Grand Teton in June of 2021.

I went back for a quick, short trip in August of 2021.

A few of us went to Glacier last July, 2022.

I stopped by again in July after Canada, as well as returned for a quick, short trip in August 2022 to Glacier and Grand Teton.

photos for Grand Teton side trip will be added later when I have more time

So for both August 2021 and 2022, I made some solo side-trips.

This August, 2023, I probably will help again at a children's bereavement camp in Salt Lake City, Utah -- and am planning on re-visiting Glacier for a few days...and then also Yellowstone.

The last two years, I went alone for these side-trips (different from our small group trips that were more organized).

IIRC, I don't think I told anyone my plans since I figured nobody would want to go (since it's so far and unorganized / spontaneous).

I'm perfectly fine and happy with going alone again this year.

However, now, I feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about Yellowstone and Glacier, so if anyone else wants to join -- I'm open to possibly others tagging along.

Although, these will not be like our other typical trips. This is more casual, informal, unorganized, etc.

Here's an older map to help illustrate how far Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton are, and help anyone who might be interested in doing their own camping road trip.

I like the aforementioned map for its clarity -- but it's older, so a little out-dated.

Here's another map that is newer, and shows some of the newer national parks.

If anyone is curious or serious about going either to Glacier or Yellowstone, more is explained in this Google Doc.

If anyone wants to go on different days or next year, that's fine.

Some people need months to plan & prepare for a big trip, so it's okay if nobody can join this.

I don't recall posting my solo side-trips the last two years, August 2021 and 2022, ergo, I was perfectly fine with going alone.

And am excited to return this year.

For any who have never visited before, Glacier and Yellowstone (and Grand Teton) are incredible places.

Hopefully some of you have an opportunity to go in the future.

Whether it's this year, next year, or years from now -- hopefully many of you can visit at least once in your life-time.

Cheers!

p.s.

During past 2 years, a few group members asked me about driving.

I rented a vehicle and drove 2 women in 2021 for Yellowstone & Grand Teton. But things got tricky because I wanted to wake up early each morning to look for bears, and they wanted to sleep (like normal people). haha.

I couldn't carpool last year because of going to Canada for Banff & Jasper, but a few people asked me to drive them.

This summer, I don't need to wake up early to see bears (I've seen so many the past few years), so I might be okay with doing normal stuff at Yellowstone and Glacier, so if someone REALLY wants to go, but doesn't want to drive -- one idea is to fly into Salt Lake City, and maybe I can drive 1 person. But I'll need to think about it some more...if I rent a larger car or not.
