Dal Rae has been on my “LA Vintage Venue Bucket List” for as long as I can remember. Many friends and Meetup members alike have highly recommended Dal Rae over the years.

Check out the video below and see what famed Chef and multi-restaurant operator Nancy Silverton has to say about the Dal Rae. She’s a HUGE fan too!! She calls their pepper steak “brilliant” and even replicated it (added her own touches) for one of her own restaurants. Proud copycater she says, “Dal Rae eat your heart out”!! Lorin Smith, owner of the Dal Rae, states, “Often copied never equal”. I can’t wait to try it!!! It’s on the Dine LA menu!! Yippie!!

ABOUT MIKE PARLETT
Passionate and seasoned, Mike Parlett is considered a musical virtuoso, one of only a handful of Los Angeles saxophonists that boasts such an impressive background in both the UK and the U.S.

Mike plays over a dozen instruments including Saxaphone (Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Soprano), a variety of flutes (Concert, Piccolo, Alto, Indian and Penny), Piano, Keyboards, Guitar (including Bass), Vocalslit, Drums & Percussion.

Located in the city of Pico Rivera, Dal Rae might be a haul for some people (including Amy & I), but no matter how bad traffic is looking, this is a pilgrimage worth making from everyone I’ve spoken to who has been there.

The classic Pico Rivera institution “steakhouse” has a history rooted in mid-century dining. It opened in 1958 at its current location on Washington Blvd, but its origins trace back to a restaurant opened in the 1940s by Ed Dalton and Rae Harris. The current owners, Kevin and Lorin Smith, are the sons of the owners who took over in the 1950s, Ben and Bill Smith, and they continue to uphold the restaurant's reputation for quality and service

Their classic space is made up of multiple dining rooms with wood-paneled walls and twinkling chandeliers, and the menu is filled with dishes like oyster rockefellers, fettuccine carbonara, and tableside caesars. If it's your first time, go for the famous pepper steak, either a filet mignon or New York strip (you choose the cut), topped with a sauteed mixture of bacon, onions, and peppercorn.
