Deer Grove West Forest Preserve

1700 N Quentin road

Situated in northwestern Cook County, Deer Grove was the first preserve acquired by the Forest Preserve District, beginning with 500 acres in 1916. Deer Grove’s rolling upland forest is interspersed with wooded ravines and wetlands with picturesque creeks meandering through this tract.

We will start from the Mountain Bike Staging Area , Deer Grove #5, and walk west on the Yellow trail. At the westernmost parking lot you can either take the orange trail back for 3.5 miles, continue on the yellow to the black trail for 4.25 miles or do the whole yellow trail for 6 miles.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash.

All trails are crushed stone with the exception of a board walk and a fifty foot timber bridge. The trail out and back is about 3.5 miles with the option to add another 1.5 miles.
Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Moraine Hills State Park is 1,690 acres,
Wetlands and Lakes make up about half of the park.
There are two self-guiding interpretive board walks to observe the Marsh habitat.
There are three trails wind thru the park.
Lake Defiance trail (RED) is 3.7 miles.
Leatherleaf Bog Trail (Blue) is 3.2 miles.
Fox River Trail (Yellow) 2.0 miles
All of the trails are considered easy by All trails
