Hike Lake Merced / Fort Funston

Take in beautiful views of Lake Merced, the ocean and coastline, San Bruno Mountain, Twin Peaks, Mount Davidson, and even the Golden Gate Bridge on clear days.

We meet at the picnic tables between the Fitness Court and the Lake Merced Bridge on John Muir Drive at 6:00 p.m and set off shortly after. We walk 1.5 miles to the Observation Deck at Fort Funston, where we tend to stop for a bit, chat, watch for dolphins and whales, gaze in awe at the hang gliders and paragliders flying overhead, and enjoy the golden hour (or admire the fog). The total distance is between 3 and 4 miles, depending on which route we take back.

The weather can be anything from warm and sunny to cold and windy, so it's best to wear layers.
