What we’re about
We are back!
Lambda Montreal (the union of Scala Montreal, Haskell Montreal, and Montreal's Erlang User Group) gathers Montreal's functional programming enthusiasts.
To keep current with the current advancement in the technologies, we are openning the door for even more colourful talks and topics! Topics, that in the first glance may not seem to related to functional programming, but when you look deep into it, they atually are!

Juliette will be presenting: Functional Optics in TypeScript
Optable Technologies, Suite# 700 - 1435 Rue St-Alexandre, Montreal, QC, CAJuliette Lamarche, a math graduate and poet turned cook turned front-end developer, with a focus on pragmatic functional programming and expressive code, will be presenting functional optics in Type Script. Here is a summary of the talk:
Optics are bidirectional transforms. The core concepts have been developed in Haskell, as a way to find a pure equivalent to workflows involving in-place mutations of deeply nested objects. But because they compose and generalize better, optics have since been ported to languages where mutability is readily available. I will explore this lesser known gem of functional programming, with focus on my personal experience using and implementing them in TypeScript.
