Good day Functional programmers,

The day we’ve been waiting for over 1 year has finally arrived! On behalf of Lambda Montreal in collaboration with Hopper, we’d like to organize our first post-pandemic MeetUp with Dick Wall, Principal software engineer at Hopper and also well known in the Scala open source community as a speaker on Thursday October 21st at 6pm EDT.

Topic of the day:

“Your scala type system working for you”

6:00pm - Doors Open

6:15pm - Introduction

6:30pm - Beginning of presentation

7:30pm - End of presentation

7:30-8:00pm - Q & A

8:00-8:30pm - Mingling

We are contemplating hosting the MeetUp in a hybrid format, both virtually and in-person at our HQ office space. However, we would like to validate the community’s thoughts as our priority is the health and safety of both the lambda Montreal community and Hopper’s team. In this regard, we’re granting ourselves the right to update the format depending on the public health recommendations.

Please make sure to complete to survey below to let us know your thoughts as we try to accommodate as many attendees as possible:

A little more about Dick:

“Recipient of the inaugural Phil Bagwell Award for Service to the Scala Community and with more than a dozen years of experience in Scala development as well as being a member of Java Posse, Dick Wall is a renowned speaker and trainer in the application of Scala. He is a Geographical Information System (GIS) specialist using Scala at Hopper, Inc., CEO of Escalate Software and previous co-host on Scalawags Podcast. Dick has rediscovered his love of GIS combined with the power of the Scala type system, and wants to share his experiences of writing APIs to simplify that subject for others.”

For any questions or inquiries, please reach out to Kamil Eladas, Sr Technical recruiter and co-organizer of Lambda Montreal.

*** Physical capacity : 40 people (first come first served)

*** Virtual capacity : Unlimited

*** Our venue will have mandatory health & safety protocols put in place to be respected by all attendees for which a violation of any form could lead to expulsion.
