Patriarchy, Matriarchy & Democracy: A Two-Part Online Discussion

This is an LFS online discussion series, held on Zoom, in 2 parts.

Zoom restricts a Basic account to 40 minute sessions. I'll provide 2 links so we can keep going after the time limit.

Across two sessions, we’ll explore how patriarchy and matriarchy organize power, care, law, family, sex, money, violence, and democracy.

We’ll use consciousness-raising style discussion rules: speak personally, listen carefully, don’t interrupt, and don’t debate someone while they are speaking.

For each question, we’ll do a speaking round first. After everyone who wants to speak has done so, Susan will offer brief evidence, examples, or definitions to deepen the discussion.

Part 2 August 13

• What are the benefits of each?
• What are the dangers or pitfalls of each?
• Can an equalitarian democracy exist inside a patriarchy?

This is not a lecture. It is a structured conversation about power, equality, family, sex, law, care, violence, democracy, and what kind of world we want to build.
