Difficulty: low/medium

  • Not particularly difficult, but there are a few ups and downs, mostly in the beginning.

Meeting Point / Directions:

  • Safe option: Erlangen Hauptbahnhof, platform 1, at 11:15 AM.
  • If you're not from Erlangen, it might be easier to meet directly in the train:
  • We'll catch the RE 19 (direction Sonneberg) at 11:27 on platform 1.
  • We'll get off in Forchheim at 11:34, platform 7, and take the RB 22 to Ebermannstadt on platform 8 at 11:40.
  • In Ebermannstadt, we should get off at 11:59 and have 3 minutes to catch the Bus 389 (direction Pegnitz) to bus stop "B470" in Streitberg.
  • If you have a car, it might be best to join us around 12:10 at the B470 bus stop in Streitberg.
  • Look out for the red "Language Hikes" basecap.

Route:

Bring:

  • A valid ticket. Deutschlandticket works. Otherwise you will need 7 fare zones from Erlangen to Streitberg and back each.
  • Prepare for the weather. Water-repellent hiking shoes are always a good idea (the ground can often be muddy even a few days after the last rain). Also a raincoat in case of rain, or sunscreen in the sun if you need it. The weather will be announced in the morning before the hike.
  • Water. In sunny weather, about a 1.5L bottle should suffice for the whole trip.
  • Your own food and snacks. In the spirit of keeping the meetup affordable for everyone, we don't eat out during the "official" part of the trip. There will be at least one break in the open where we can eat what we brought.

Bad Weather: The hike always takes place, even in bad weather—just make sure to bring a raincoat and suitable footwear. In severe cases, we decide what to do spontaneously onsite. If you'd rather not hike in the rain, it's totally fine to un-RSVP at the last minute, not show up, or leave early.

Languages: At least one speaker of German (native), English, Spanish, Italian, and Russian; usually also Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, and many more. It's up to you to engage in conversations in your target language, or just enjoy the company and hike in English. We're relaxed about it.

Disclaimer: Participate at your own risk. While we do our best to ensure everyone's safety, and the route itself is not dangerous, there is always some risk involved in outdoor activities. It is the responsibility of each participant to assess their own health and fitness levels, dress appropriately, and take precautions for their own safety. By joining this event, you acknowledge and accept that the organizers will not be liable for any harm or damage arising from your participation.
