Las Cruces Outdoor/Urban Art Meetup Group

This company has an ice rink set up in one of the main livestock buildings. There are signs showing you the way with lights and inflatables. Dress for the weather. The building is heated by some portable heaters only. If you want to skate, it is $11 for a two hour session. Skates are included. There is a food truck. No food or drink from the outside is allowed. We are allowed to be on the outside warming area where the parents stay to do our artwork. There are bleachers and chairs, but if you want to be close to the rink, you may need to stand or bring your own chair. Bring your own art supplies.

We will be on the exterior of the Branigan cultural center. It houses, cultural and historic exhibitions in a 1935 Pueblo revival style building. It was the first library in Las Cruces. Admission is free. There are bathrooms and water inside. There are several statues outside. We will be in the courtyard between the art museum and the cultural center. There are a few seats. But bring your own camp stools and art supplies. We will be drawing on the outside of the building. The exhibit at that time will be of the Tortugas Pueblo, if you choose to go in. 

This is the old Dona Ana Courthouse on Amador. In 1937 the WPA partially funded the construction of this three-story white Adobe with exposed vigas and wooden balconies. A jail was added in 1969. The architect was Percy McGhee , a student of Henry Trost. McGhee also did the Brannigan cultural center building. In two different histories, I saw that it was called Spanish revival and in a different one Pueblo revival style building.
David from Southwest Expeditions has an office there. He’s the one that takes people on canoe trips, kayak trips, hiking trips, and ghost Tours. He said if he’s around, he will open the building so we can take a look around inside. But mostly, we will be outside. Bring your art supplies, camp chairs, and dress for the weather.
