Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park
Details
The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park, near Las Cruces, New Mexico, is a 935-acre preserve managed by the Asombro Institute for Science Education, offering trails for hiking and wildlife viewing with views of the Organ Mountains. It features diverse desert flora and fauna, educational signage, and amenities like restrooms, though the access road is unpaved and requires careful driving. Visitors should bring water and be aware of snakes.
There are some picnic tables and shaded areas. There is a trail of about a mile. The managers have said they will open the bathroom. Bring your own water, dress for the weather, bring your own art supplies.
If you want to come 30 minutes early, Cindy will give a demonstration for beginner Watercolor artists.
I will go out a week ahead to see what the dirt road is like. I think it’s passable, does not need four-wheel-drive, but is slow driving on gravel the last portion of the driveway.
