Mesilla Valley Audubon Society Nature Journaling @ NMSU Herbarium
Details
Sorry for the late notice on our next event, but we've been working out the details! We're excited to have the opportunity to explore the NMSU Herbarium next Wednesday, February 11, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The collection includes thousands of plant specimens from around the world!
The curator, Zach Rogers, will give us some information on some of the keystone species in the Chihuahuan Desert and give us a brief introduction to herbaria and plant specimen preparation. Then, we'll be able to select specimens from the collection to journal. He hopes to have a student available to help us. Please RSVP so we know who to expect.
Check out the video on their website.
Here are some important notes:
1. You must have a parking pass. You can get a free one here: https://auxadminforms.nmsu.edu/ParkingForms/ePermit.aspx. Zach emphasizes the importance of checking the box that says you are not an NMSU student, staff, or faculty member.
2. There is parking in a small lot at the Biology Annex Building where we'll be heading, but not a lot. You may have to find a nearby lot if it is full. Carpooling may be helpful!
3. While we can use watercolors, either use water brushes or a very small container for your water. We don't want to create any spills and damage equipment or specimens!
