LASG is going back to Cinespia at Hollywood Forever for the July 27 screening of "Caddyshack." In addition to the quintessential LA experience of a Cinespia screening, scooters get into the event when the gates open without having to wait for hours and we get to park next to the lawn where the movie is shown. This means we get the choice spots!
(No we don't sit on graves. It's just a big, grassy area with a huge wall at one end.)
This is the dinner & a movie part of our "LASG Dream Date" weekend. The second part is our Tomas Cafe Breakfast Ride (https://www.meetup.com/LAScooterGroup/events/128645172/) Sunday, July 28!
RSVPs open Wed., July 10 at noon. Please do not RSVP +1 for passengers, only additional riders.
We realize that such highbrow fare as "Citizen Kane" and "Apocalypse Now" are often among the films considered the Greatest Ever Made, but we're willing to make an argument for "Caddyshack." It's a multi-layered, complex interweaving of a coming of age story with complex social issues such as sexual liberation, mental health and animal rights — all set against a backdrop of class warfare and anti-elitism. It's also much funnier than those other movies and helped launch the film career of Bill Murray, who we all know is a national treasure.
This will sell out so get your tickets in advance as soon as you RSVP! Purchase tickets ($13 online) here. (http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/309847?utm_medium=bks) DO NOT BUY A PARKING PASS. We are awesome. We get to roll right in.
If you can't ride with us, feel free to meet us at Hollywood Forever, but please don't RSVP for the ride. We'll see you there!
What to bring:
Food and drink. Pack a cooler and strap it to your seat, bring a picnic, raid the prepared foods counter at Whole Foods. If the forecast is for heat, bring some extra water for before the sun goes down. A blanket/ground cover, pillows, comfort items. A tarp is good too. The ground always gets wet there. Low camp chairs that sit on the ground are allowed. Anything higher than a person sitting up straight is not. Something to cover your scooter's seat. The dew is crazy. Maybe it's all the ghosts or something. Directions home! See the Cinespia How To (http://cinespia.org/how-to/) for details.
What to wear: Since this is Elll Lllayyy, every cool event has a Photo Booth (http://cinespia.org/photo-archive/). People dress up in theme attire for Cinespia now. I know, it's pretty high on the hipster scale but also rather amusing so just go with it. I'll be hitting some thrift stores beforehand. ALSO, it gets cool so bring a sweater or jacket. This place has its own climate!
Itinerary:
Meet at 5:30pm at Bob's in Burbank.
KSU at 6:00pm.
Short, scenic ride around the Hollywood Reservoir. Brief stop for our own photo ops.
Roll up to Hollywood Forever around 7:00pm.
Gates open at 7:30. We ride in like rock stars. Movie starts at about 9.
After the movie, we all go our separate ways.
Note: This is a full evening. We meet at 5:30, ride, wait, sit and eat and socialize, goof off in the Photo Booth, then watch almost two hours classic cinema. We'll be leaving Hollywood Forever around 11. Exiting will likely require lane splitting unless you want to sit out there even longer.
Requirements: ALL SCOOTER-FRIENDLY RIDE. Bring your 50cc, 80cc, whatever! Be aware that there are some hills and twisty, narrow roads involved but it's as short a ride as we'll ever do.
Please read our Group Policies and Group Riding Guidelines before RSVPing and attending an LASG Meetup:
https://www.meetup.com/LAScooterGroup/messages/boards/forum/1490159
Route: TBA, but pretty direct.
Etc: Feel fee to post questions and comments below or email us with any questions.
