What we’re about
EVERYONE is welcome!
This physical, emotional, mental and social exercise program is officially called "Laughter Yoga", but we do not do hatha/physical yoga. Rather, we combine intentional laughter (which quickly becomes real and genuine laughter) with yogic breathing and relaxation to bring more oxygen to our bodies and brains and exercise the creative and playful parts of our brain, breaking down our inhibitions and emotional/mental blocks.
Laughter classes are a fun, easy and effective way to de-stress and it's good for our hearts, lungs, digestive system, immune system, etc.!
Many people join us who are not part of Meetup, so even if only one or two people RSVP through Meetup, there is sure to be more people at the group!
FREE Laughter Classes meet all over the world (search on www.laughteryoga.org or google it). In SAN DIEGO COUNTY there are currently 5 Laughter Classes that meet regularly.
You can find out more about laughter yoga on the international laughter yoga website (www.LaughterYoga.org)

- Laughter Yoga in Balboa ParkSixth Avenue Playground, San Diego, CA
WE'RE BACK! This is a live in-person gathering for yoga.
We meet every Saturday 9:30 A.M. Location is just south of 6th Avenue Playground in Balboa Park, cross street is Spruce. If you can't make it, don't worry because we will be there every week, same time same place.
It is not necessary to RSVP on meetup but I recommend it so that I am able to send you the latest updates (in case we need to change time/location last minute). It also helps us to know who to expect.
OUR GROUP HAS BEEN MEETING FOR OVER 15 YEARS! It's a great way to start the day and the weekend. We do some simple stretching, playful laughter exercises and end with a deep relaxation.
MORE PEOPLE WILL ATTEND THAN RSVP ON MEETUP because Meetup is not the only way we promote the group.
WHAT WILL WE DO? We practice "Laughter Yoga." We start with gentle stretching, then engage in simple playful exercises that elicit genuine laughter without the need for jokes or comedy. We do a lot of breathing in between exercises which brings more oxygen to our body and brains. We end with a "laughter free-for-all" where everyone is invited to laugh, make whatever noises they want, or just lie quietly. Each group ends with a period of relaxation. It is a practice called "Laughter Yoga."
WHY IS IT CALLED "YOGA"? Laughter Yoga is NOT hatha (physical) yoga. Laughter Yoga was started in India in 1995 by a medical doctor and his wife who is a hatha yoga teacher. "Yoga" is a generic term that refers to anything we do that brings our mind, body and heart/soul into balance and laughter certainly does that! Also, Laughter Yoga incorporates the breathing and relaxation of hatha yoga and practicing it makes us more flexible in our lives, teaching us new ways to react to normally stress-producing events. For more information about Laughter Yoga, visit www.LaughterYoga.org.
NO YOGA MAT OR SPECIAL CLOTHING REQUIRED.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME. People of ALL ages and abilities laugh with us. The group is done standing but you can bring a beach chair or folding chair if you prefer to sit during all or any part of the group.
WE STILL MEET IF IT RAINS. If it rains, we meet under the overhang by the Bridge Club building. It's just a little further south of our normal spot.
