What we’re about
Do you like going for slow walks after work or on the weekends? Do you give yourself a crick in the neck staring up in the bosque looking for porcupines? Do you constantly upload photos of plants on iNaturalist and Seek? Do you stop to gawk at bugs going about their business by the trail? Then let's get together for a stroll!
This is a group for people who are interested in nature and not focused on moving fast. We're not experts on native plants or fauna, but we sure do like to learn as we go! We'll go on slowwwww, short hikes in the Albuquerque area and try to learn about the world around us.
We also have a Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/15d6MapaqC/
Upcoming events (2)
See all- Field Trip! Mushroom appreciation hike in the Sandias!Ellis Trailhead, cedar crest, NM
It's mushroom season! Let's go meet some fun guys!
We'll meet at the Ellis Trailhead for a slow stroll on the Rocky Point Trail. Expect less than 2 miles of very very slow walking and crouching as we admire all the fungi we can find. This is an in and out walk.
A little info about NM fungi: https://www.nps.gov/sapu/learn/nature/mushrooms.htm
Disclaimer: I am not a mushroom expert and I will NOT be encouraging you to eat any of the mushrooms we find. I've just read Entangled Life and think mushrooms are cool. Come purely for the joy of being outside and enjoying nature!
If you do want to take some fungi samples for proper IDing later, bring a basket/paper bags - there's an event by ECOLOGICA on Sunday you can take them to: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOEMDRZDi12/?hl=en&img_index=1
Consider installing iNaturalist on your phone and sharing pics of your finds with the community!
Let's leave the doggos at home for this one and focus on the local wildlife. Binoculars are always a plus.
There's a vault toilet at the trailhead.
