See all- How Long Will It Take? A Planning Workshop with Brent HurleyThe Garment Factory, Glasgow
For our May event, we've got a workshop that's all about planning!
How Long Will It Take? A Planning Workshop
How long will it take? - When will it be done? - What even is it?
What is a reasonable Increment? What is an MVP? Does anybody really know at the start?
Repeatable tasks or Projects are predictable, right? Well, data from the Perinatal Institute, shows that an estimated due date for a newborn, is just 4% accurate. The PMI has effectively stopped tracking Project Accuracy, too variable, too complex, too depressing?
This workshop is an exercise in planning and predictability. Often quoted: “plans are worthless but planning is everything”, we will explore that and more. Planning something too big, too complex or just too many variables, is not simple and shouldn’t be. It is also not a single act.
Leadership needs to understand that predicting timelines should be reviewed and amended constantly. Continuous Planning is a thing!
So if you’re a leader, part of any planning in your organisation, or just looking for a reusable workshop to highlight how plans change. This is for you!No Gantts, No AI… only HI - Human Intelligence - and a voyage of discovery.
About Brent Hurley
Brent Hurley is the Chief Innovator and Problem Solver at Gira Solutions and an Enterprise Innovation Coach based in Edinburgh. He has instigated and completed multiple digital and organisational Agile roll-outs for clients across a wide range of industries.
Gira was created to not only coach and train, but to implement “build and leave” solutions, tooling and methodologies, to complex problems. He believes that the application of Agile practices has always returned optimum results.
Brent’s work covers the Team, Product and Enterprise Coaching, mentoring them through the adoption of Lean, Agile and Innovation practices across the entire organisation. He has also worked with Senior Managers and Leaders to assist them in realising the business value of an Agile approach, not only with software development but extending techniques and practices throughout the organization, way beyond software.
Prior to relocating to Edinburgh, Brent had many years of experience in a variety of industries in New York’s “Silicon Alley”, Europe and Australia, and his relocation was to work across US, UK and Europe more effectively.

- Morning Lean CoffeeLink visible for attendees
Morning Lean Coffee (http://leancoffee.org/) is an open opportunity to discuss Lean and Agile ideas, challenges and solutions with people across organisations but with similar interests and goals.
Everyone is welcome and we usually have a good mix of people from different backgrounds so if you have something you'd like to talk about, or you just want to listen and learn, then please join us.
We run this as a zoom event, with the link appearing for confirmed attendees in the event invite shortly before the event starts.
We also use Lean Coffee Table (https://www.leancoffeetable.com/) as our remote Sharpie and Post-it replacement!
If you don't already have a leancoffeetable.com account, you can sign in with your corporate GSuite or Office 365 login, or just join as a guest on the day. The link to the board will be shared at the start of the session.
The Lean Coffee session will run from 7.45am until 8.45am, but the zoom room will be open from around 7.30am for waking-up chat, so grab a coffee and we will see you there!
