A practical workshop for leaders and professionals who want to stay open, reflective and constructive when being given feedback feels difficult, unexpected or personal.

Feedback can trigger defensiveness, especially when it challenges our competence, intentions, leadership or sense of fairness. This workshop helps participants recognise their automatic responses, use the PAUSE model and respond with greater curiosity and intention.

We will cover:

• Recognise triggers that cause defensiveness.
• Identify fight, flight and freeze responses.
• Recognise your own defensive feedback pattern.
• Apply the PAUSE model when receiving difficult feedback.
• Ask questions that clarify feedback and support action.

A strong speak-up culture enables people to raise concerns, ask questions, admit mistakes and challenge ideas constructively. It is not about avoiding difficult conversations, lowering standards or agreeing with every suggestion; it is about how leaders respond when someone brings forward a risk, uncertainty or different perspective. Through realistic workplace scenarios, reflection and paired practice, participants will explore the everyday reactions that either encourage voice or shut it down and how consistent, respectful responses build psychological safety over time.

We will cover:

• Explain what psychological safety means.
• Recognise what makes a workplace feel psychologically safe or unsafe.
• Use the LISTEN model when someone speaks up.
• Choose one action to create more psychological safety at work.
