What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
Take a break from the week with a quiet night in the outdoors. This is an ultra short (1.5 -2 mile) walk around Teddy Roosevelt Island, followed by dinner at The Little Beet. .You can get there by car or metro to Rosslyn station, or via bike from Mt Vernon Trail.
Join with Lez Go at DC Front Runners' annual Pride 5K at the Congressional Cemetery. We will meet up beforehand to hang out, meet old friends, and greet new attendees. During the race, you can pair up with Lez Goers with a similar pace or just run on your own. We will cheer eachother on at the finish line and then head to a nearby spot to recharge our calories. For those of you thinking "gee, I don't feel in shape for a 5K". Don't worry! I'm posting this 6 months early! You have plenty of time! Event registration opens up January 20, 2019 at https://www.dcfrpriderun.com/
[Copied from the Facebook event] Excited about the conclusion of the Pride Parade but not quite ready to head out into the evening? I'm hosting an in-between gathering at my Brookland home for all gals, pals, and wanna-be friends. Our main goal is to attend the Capital Pride Womxn’s Party at the Howard Theater (link at the bottom), leaving my house at 10:00 pm. Feel free to swing by my watering hole for some rest and recuperation before you hit the town. However, you are more than welcome to simply say hello and attend to your own plans. Some alcoholic supplies will be made available. https://www.facebook.com/events/343840116277990/ https://taggmagazine.com/events/dc-fuse-official-capital-pride-womxns-party/
What: Float along the Shenandoah River while enjoying stunning mountain scenery and just a little bit of white water. We will rent canoes, single kayaks, and double kayaks and cover around 12 miles over 5 hours. We will take our time and stop at a swimming hole along the way. Registering: To streamline coordination, please fill out this Google doc: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeL7_S2XHHG0ai4u9fQ6xhSDVoKXb3MjNceRBjk6tZkK3DK1A/viewform?usp=sf_link Costs: Rental costs are $46 for a single kayak, and $35 for a shared canoe or shared kayak. Members are asked to give the organizer a nonrefundable $20 deposit when registering for this event. The rest can be paid via Venmo or Paypal on the day of the event. Travel: We will meet at Dunn Loring Metro at 9:00 AM. For those who would prefer to meet us on-site, meet us at 884 Indian Hollow Rd Bentonville, VA at 10:30 AM. Safety notes- The "rapids" are generally small and beginner-friendly. However, please remember that this event is not entirely risk free. You will be expected to sign a waiver when you arrive at the site. There will be one section (Compton Rapid) that is a Class II rapid and can be a little intimidating if you are new to kayaking or if the water is high. If you don't feel comfortable, no worries! Plenty of us will be thrilled to do it more than once and will take your kayak down for you! Weather: This is a rain or shine event. The event will only be cancelled in the event the outfitter closes due to unsafe weather conditions.
