Topic: Privacy-respecting Search Engines
Description: Since the 1990s, Internet searches have been our gateway to the World Wide Web. As building search indexes became harder to scale and monetize, a small startup named Google completely revolutionized search engine technology. But their success gave rise to an advertiser-driven surveillance machine and invades every aspect of our lives.
Fortunately, we can take back our privacy by simply changing what search engines we use. At this workshop, we'll delve into the risks of using the main search engines, some privacy-respecting alternatives, and even ways to host your own!
