Open Technology Workshop – FOSS for Education
Details
Meeting Details
June 17, 2026
Topic: FOSS for Education
Description: Ad-Tech is continually invading our classrooms. With intentions to turn our children into targets for advertising. Google has provided numerous schools with cheap Chromebooks to make kids Google users from an early age. But Google is one of many companies seeing dollar signs in our youth.
But it turns out we can use free and open-source software to help educate our kids instead. The FOSS community has numerous offerings that not only help in the classroom, but they also have no interest in collecting data. At this session, we'll explore a wide variety of FOSS applications, suites, and operating systems and see how we can use them both in school and at home. This workshop is kid-friendly, so feel free to bring them to explore the softwares!
