# Welcome to Lisbon Hiking and Meditation
Connecting with Nature, Mindful Presence, Community, and Culture — Locally and Globally
### Our Story and Vision
Lisbon Hiking and Meditation began with a simple idea: bringing people together to experience nature not just as a backdrop, but as a space for genuine connection, presence, and cultural exchange.
The group was founded by Aman, who brought to Lisbon more than a decade of experience as a mountain guide in his home country of Nepal, leading treks through the Himalayas and Mount Everest. For Aman, hiking has always been about much more than reaching a summit. Through his work with Nomads (https://thenomadexperience.com)—an organization dedicated to conscious trekking in Nepal and across Asia—Aman is passionate about introducing travelers to local cultures, traditional ways of life, social projects, and local communities.
When Aman moved to Lisbon, he established this group to share that spirit of discovery, building a local bridge for anyone curious about immersive, culturally rooted trekking experiences in Asia while enjoying the trails around Lisbon.
### Growing the Trail Together
As Aman’s family and professional commitments expanded, the group needed a fresh pair of feet on the ground to keep the trail alive. Enter Massimo (Max), an Italian facilitator who joined the group after 20 years in the UK, bringing deep experience from years spent in intentional communities and Buddhist monasteries.
With Massimo stepping in to facilitate and lead our weekly walks, the group has entered a vibrant new chapter. Massimo brings a deep passion for community-building and a meditative approach to nature, helping us slow down, cultivate presence, and connect meaningfully with one another and the landscapes around Lisbon.

Together, our group bridges the local and the global, the inner and the outer journey:

ABOUT THE BOAT FROM LISBON TO CACILHAS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------Join us for an evening across the Tagus to experience Lisbon’s iconic skyline from the southern shoreline during twilight, sunset, and moonrise.
We will take the ferry to Cacilhas and ascend to Almada Velha. Our first main stop is the tranquil botanical gardens of Casa da Cerca - Centro de Arte Contemporânea, where we’ll take a meditative, reflective time while enjoying expansive views across the river and city.
From the clifftop, we’ll descend to Jardim do Rio to watch the sun set directly behind the 25 de Abril Bridge. To close the evening, we will stroll along the waterfront path to the Cacilhas Lighthouse just in time to watch the quasi-full moon rise over the broad waters of the Tagus bay.
We expect to walk only a few hours return, but we will stay out all day. The rest of the time will be about the enjoyment of nature and each other's company.
Please don't forget your PACK DINNER, your WATER, and a little mat to sit on the floor if you need it.
Even in Summer, it can be cool on exposed sites over the water. Please have a jumper with you to keep you warm
It is recommended that you wear WALKING SHOES. Flip-flops will be dangerous to wear.

Romantic Views: a panoramic walk across the Palaces & Castles of Sintra Hills

Come join us for a day of scenic beauty, engaging stories, and welcoming community on the atmospheric, shaded paths winding up through the heart of the Sintra hills.
This journey starts from the heart of the Sintra village and invites you to slow down, take in the fresh scent of pine and giant ferns, and enjoy the mountain's distinct, magical character alongside good company.
Rather than waiting in line at ticketed gates (and paying for the ticket!), we will follow moss-draped forest trails and rocky ridges, discovering scenic vantage points that reveal the true beauty of the Serra.
Along our route, we’ll take in dramatic, panoramic views framing icons like the rugged stone battlements of the Castelo dos Mouros and the colourful towers of Palácio da Pena rising directly from the canopy.
As we walk, we’ll bring the landscape to life with captivating stories and local lore—tales of hidden springs, ancient Moorish defenders, and 19th-century romantic visionaries who were drawn to these mysterious hills.
We’ll also pause to take a few moments of silent reflection and meditation, enjoying the fresh air and expansive horizons.

This event has a CAR SHARE SCHEME: if you are a driver and want to offer someone a lift, please go to https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/snavwx and register your availability. If you need a lift, go to the same website and see if there is a car available. Any problem, please post your requests here.
You need to register for the event and get a place before taking a place in a car.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT. It is possible to reach Sintra by train or bus. The meeting point, Palacio National, is within walking distance from the centre of Sintra.
