Shanahan & Mesa Hike from NCAR

Difficulty: about 7 to 7.5 miles with about 1,650 to 1,700 feet elevation gain.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: Let’s do a double loop hike in the Boulder Open Space. This hike has beautiful views of the flatirons with a nice walk through Ponderosa pine. See the following hike in alltrails: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/shanahan-and-mesa-trail-loop

DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW RULES: Dogs must be on leash for part of the trail. On other sections, your dog can be off leash if you have a voice & sight control tag. See https://bouldercolorado.gov/services/voice-and-sight-program. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement.

ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the NCAR Trailhead. When you pull into the parking area, park at the nearest part of the lot. The address is: 1850 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO 80305. To get there, you can click on the alltrails link above and click Directions. Or if you use Google maps, you can type in “NCAR Trail Head” for directions. In Apple Maps, you can type in “NCAR Trail” to get directions.

We wait 5 minutes for late arrivals…but no longer as that is inconsiderate to those arriving timely. So please allow extra time to get to the trailhead.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water, snacks, layers of clothing, good hiking shoes/boots, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, gloves, hiking poles (if you find them helpful), and anything else you deem essential. PLEASE ALSO BRING MICROSPIKES!
