About us
GENERALised RECIPROCITY | THE GIFT CIRCLE
Give what you can. Receive what you need. Keep the kindness moving. 🤍
Welcome to our community of generalised reciprocity, gifting and sharing.
This is a space where we exchange food, clothes, toiletries, perfumes, household items, skills, time, knowledge, practical help and other useful things — without money.
The idea is simple:
You give when you have something to give.
You receive when you have a need.
You help when you are able.
And you pass the kindness on when you can.
You don’t necessarily give to the person who gave to you. Someone may give you food today, and weeks later you might help another member move house, give someone clothes, share some groceries or offer a skill.
Nobody keeps score. Nobody owes anybody.
Some days you may be a giver.
Some days you may be a receiver.
And sometimes you may be both.
There is no shame in asking for something you genuinely need, and there is no expectation that everyone must constantly contribute. We all have different circumstances.
What can be shared?

❤️ Acts of kindness
No buying. No selling. No keeping score. Just community.
Let’s create a circle where the things we no longer need can become exactly what someone else needs — and where our time, skills and kindness are valued just as much as our possessions.
Give freely. Ask without shame. Receive with gratitude. Pass it on when you can.
Welcome to the circle. 🌱
🌱 THE RECIPROCITY CIRCLE — GROUP RULES
1. NO MONEY — THIS IS NOT A MARKETPLACE
Nothing should be bought or sold within the group.
Please don’t post prices, ask for payment or offer items in exchange for money.
2. GIVE FREELY
Give because you genuinely want to contribute.
There is no requirement to give something back immediately or to the person who helped you.
3. ASK WITHOUT SHAME
If you need something, ask.
You might need food, clothing, toiletries, furniture, help with transport, childcare, moving, studying or simply someone’s time.
Needing help does not make you less valuable to the community.
4. DON’T KEEP SCORE
This is generalised reciprocity, not a points system.
If someone gives you something worth £50, you don’t owe them £50 worth of goods.
Your contribution may come later, in a completely different form, and it may benefit someone else entirely.
5. EVERYTHING HAS VALUE
Not everyone has spare possessions.
Your time, skills, knowledge, labour, kindness and experience can be contributions too.
6. NO JUDGEMENT
People’s circumstances are different.
Don’t question why someone needs something, criticise what they are asking for or make assumptions about their financial situation.
7. BE RESPECTFUL
Treat every member with dignity.
No bullying, harassment, discrimination, insults, shaming or aggressive behaviour.
8. DON’T PRESSURE PEOPLE
Nobody should be pressured to give, receive, meet someone, provide a service or share personal information.
A “no” is a complete answer.
9. SAFETY FIRST
Please use good judgement when arranging collections, deliveries or meetings.
Avoid sharing unnecessary personal information publicly and consider meeting in a safe/public place when appropriate.
10. BE HONEST
When offering something, describe it honestly.
For food, toiletries, cosmetics and other consumable products, clearly mention relevant information such as expiry dates, opened/unused condition and any known issues.
11. DON’T TAKE MORE THAN YOU NEED
Where resources are limited, please be considerate of other members.
Taking something simply because it is free, when you don’t need it, works against the spirit of the group.
12. KEEP THE CIRCLE MOVING
If you receive something from the community, don’t feel pressured to immediately repay it.
But when you eventually have something to give, consider offering it to someone else.
The kindness doesn’t have to go backwards.
It just needs to keep moving. 🔄
OUR PRINCIPLE
Give what you can.
Ask for what you need.
Receive without shame.
Give without expectation.
Keep the kindness moving. 🤍
