Local Development for AI Workflows and Cloud-Native Apps with LocalStack

Details

Join our next meetup for a hands-on look at how LocalStack enables local development and testing for AI-powered and cloud-native applications.

Waldemar Hummer will walk through how to build and test AI and ML workflows using emulated cloud services. You’ll learn how to safely prototype cloud apps with “vibe coding” without incurring cloud costs or touching production systems. Kiah will dive into practical techniques for emulating full AWS stacks locally, from Lambda and Step Functions to S3 uploads and SNS/SQS pipelines.

Whether you're building AI workflows or debugging tricky cloud behaviours, this session will show you how to work faster, safer, and smarter — entirely from your laptop.

Develop and test your AI-powered cloud apps locally by Waldemar Hummer

LocalStack helps AI engineers develop and test AI-powered cloud applications locally by emulating critical cloud services like SageMaker, Bedrock, Redshift, and Snowflake. Running AI workflows against the real cloud can be expensive, risky, and difficult to debug.

This session introduces a safer, faster way to prototype and validate AI & ML data pipelines locally using LocalStack’s cloud emulators. You'll learn how to:

  • Set up a local development environment with LocalStack
  • Emulate AI/ML services like SageMaker, Bedrock, and Snowflake
  • Test end-to-end pipelines and integrations without touching real cloud infrastructure
  • Use “vibe coding” techniques safely in a fully isolated sandbox

Through a hands-on demo of an AI-powered serverless app, we’ll walk through how LocalStack enables secure local testing of LLM prompts, inference pipelines, and data workflows, so you can iterate confidently, avoid surprise bills, and ship faster.

About Speaker

Waldemar Hummer is Co-Founder and CTO at LocalStack. He loves to build large-scale, globally distributed systems (SaaS products, as well as data analytics platforms).

Fake It Till You Make It: Cloud Edition by Kiah Imani

You already know LocalStack lets you run AWS services locally. But what does that look like when you're building cloud-native apps from scratch, or trying to debug a tricky production issue?

In this talk, we’ll walk through hands-on ways to develop and test real AWS workflows entirely on your laptop. You’ll see how to simulate full cloud stacks—including Lambda functions, Step Functions, pre-signed S3 uploads, SNS/SQS pipelines, and event-driven workflows, without ever deploying to the cloud.

We’ll cover concrete patterns that help you:

  • Speed up iteration by avoiding slow CI/CD cycles
  • Test your serverless orchestration logic in isolation
  • Reproduce tricky edge cases locally
  • Emulate common AWS behaviours like IAM roles and event triggers

You’ll also learn how to catch bugs earlier, reduce dependency on shared dev environments, and build workflows that are easier to test, debug, and scale.

About Speaker

Kiah is a developer who advocates and evangelises about all things cloud-native at LocalStack. She has over a decade of experience covering both engineering and business roles, and prides herself on bringing a unique perspective to building products from idea to deployment and navigating product-market fit.
