What we’re about
This is for people who are into new bands and old films, particularly cult and alternative stuff that's relatively affordable. C'mon, do you really want to join two different groups? We also show social online films: we watch something good (and preferably free) online and hang out via WhatsApp while it's on.
We're an open and friendly group, so if you have interesting taste and a willingness to organise people, collar me at an event because I'm looking to build up a group of hosts who are into a diverse range of stuff. In the meantime, if there's something you want to go to, say so in the Discussions and I'll see what I can do.
Three other points: 1) If you want to go to something it's best to book early, these events often sell out (yes, even the movies), 2) If you come to an event and can't find anyone, post on the event page and we'll look for you, and 3) If you can't make it, make sure to change your RSVP to No beforehand because we have a three strikes policy for no shows - as in three strikes and you're out.

See all- Arushi JainCorsica Studios, Camberwell
Arushi Jain's music combines classical Indian music with lush synths to create soundscapes that evoke longing and emotional exploration. Yep, it's one of those kinds of gigs! This is taking place at Corsica Studios underneath the railway arches of Elephant and Castle, where I saw a bunch of cool experimental shows when I was younger. I honestly can't wait to go back.
Oh yeah, you probably want to see some music videos. Well, she doesn't have any, at least none that I can find. But here's what her stuff sounds like:

- Snõõper - SOLD OUT (Waiting list available)The Shacklewell Arms, London
I was getting ready to put this gig up when I took another look and saw it's sold out. Still, there is a waiting list on Dice so if you get on it quick, you may have some luck. And if you're already going, these are your people!
Anyway, I saw more than a hundred bands live last year and Snõõper were the best of them all, a chaotic mess of really loud, really fast, really short songs punctuated with aerobics-inspired dance moves and an array of homemade stage props. Well now they're back, and in an even smaller venue, the marvelous Shacklewell Arms. This is technically a pre-party for the Wide Awake festival, which is taking place the next day, if that's any added incentive.

Doors open at half seven so let's meet for a drink in the front bar (or back bar, wherever there's space) and head in afterwards.
- The Last Days of Disco (1998)Prince Charles Cinema, London
Writer-director Whit Stillman is never less than intelligent and witty, and in The Last Days of Disco he trains his sights on the early 80's, following best friends Alice and Charlotte (Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale) as they fall in and out of clubs and romances against a backdrop of gentrification and the birth of the Reagan era. Those themes are in the background though, as anyone who's seen Metropolitan or Love and Friendship knows how much fun Stillman is and how much his scripts crackle.

Tickets here, I'm in C5. We can meet outside afterwards and disect the movie over a drink.
