What we’re about
This is for people who are into new bands and old films, particularly cult and alternative stuff that's relatively affordable. C'mon, do you really want to join two different groups? We also show social online films: we watch something good (and preferably free) online and hang out via WhatsApp while it's on.
We're an open and friendly group, so if you have interesting taste and a willingness to organise people, collar me at an event because I'm looking to build up a group of hosts who are into a diverse range of stuff. In the meantime, if there's something you want to go to, say so in the Discussions and I'll see what I can do.
Three other points: 1) If you want to go to something it's best to book early, these events often sell out (yes, even the movies), 2) If you come to an event and can't find anyone, post on the event page and we'll look for you, and 3) If you can't make it, make sure to change your RSVP to No beforehand because we have a three strikes policy for no shows - as in three strikes and you're out.

See all- La Cage aux Folles (1978)Prince Charles Cinema, London
La Cage aux Folles was later remade in Hollywood as The Birdcage but the original, adapted from a successful French stage play, remains one of the original hit LGBTQ cinematic works as well as a landmark in French comedy.
Renato and Albin are a happily married couple running a successful gay nightclub on the Riviera, but have to act for real when Renato brings home his fiancee and her very conservative parents. Did someone say classic farce? Of course!

And you can get tickets here, I'm in B5. We can meet outside afterwards and grab a drink round the corner to discuss the movie.
- The Bug ClubMoth Club, London
I saw the second half of The Bug Club's set at End of the Road recently and it reminded me how much better their songs work in a live context, where their low-fi garage punk mutates into hard-edged mutant blues rock punctuated by short solos by guitarist Sam Willmett and bassist Tilly Harris. Both of whom can really play.
Anyway, the band are doing a few shows at the Moth Club, for my money the city's best venue for guitar music. And since they tend to work best in small spaces, they should be brilliant shows. This one sees them supported by Welsh language pop rockers Adwaith. Here's a reminder of what The Bug Club sound like.

- Sinners (2025) - FREE SCREENINGThe Manor Arms Pub, Mitcham Lane, Streatham, SW16, London
Sinners is the best thing I've seen in the cinema so far this year, the rare example of someone taking on a genre movie with a decent budget and bringing a fresh feel to it. It also has some really interesting things to say about the power of music as well as race and immigration in America, but you don't have to take it on that level if you don't want to.
Twins 'Smoke' and 'Stack' Moore (both played by Michael B. Jordan) have returned from WWI and a successful stint in organised crime in Capone-era Chicago to their hometown in the Mississippi Delta, where they plan to open a juke joint. After securing their talented young cousin as the musical entertainment, they have a barnstorming opening night. But some unwelcome visitors bring horror and death with them on a level they can't comprehend.

This is showing as part of the Streatham Free Film Festival, at The Manor Arms pub. Details here and it's first come, first served from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Don't be late, it would suck if you didn't make it in!
- Dr Caligari (1989)The Nickel Cinema, London
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari is a landmark of cinema and one of the high points of silent German expessionism. This, however is NOT that movie, but a remake courtesy of 80's underground legend Stephen Sayadian, who transferred the action to a contemporary setting highly influenced by New York's experimental theatre and installation art scenes, and stuck a bunch of camp and erotic elements in, leading it to become a midnight movie favourite.
For those who've seen neither version, this Dr Caligari is a direct descendant of the original and is conducting experiments on patients at her institute, the Caligari Insane Asylum (CIA, geddit?) where she swaps out brain fluids to try and mitigate their more extreme tendencies. Who would have thought anything could go wrong? But it does!

Tickets are here, we can watch the movie and maybe grab a drink downstairs in the bar afterwards.
