A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness (1977)

You wouldn't guess it by the film's title, but A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness is a surreal, anarchic movie by cult Japanese director Seijun Suzuki that looks and sounds amazing to boot.

Professional model Reiko Sakuraba is groomed by a magazine editor to be a top women's golfer, something she actually manages to achieve. But with great fame and recognition comes unwanted attention, particularly when one of her admirers starts blackmailing her over a crime she would like to keep secret. It's social satire meets crazed stalker movie meets Japanese B-movie.
