Few films have managed to analyse the mindset of fascism as well as Bernado Bertolucci's The Conformist, a tale of a mid-level fascist functionary with an intense need to conform to dominant social structures, who is assigned a task that will represent an extreme betrayal. Yes, we show serious things sometimes too!

Anyway, this has been considered a classic more or less since its release, with a script that netted Bertolucci an Oscar nomination and stunning cinematography that's influenced everything from The Godfather 2 to The Sopranos.
