Redline (2009)

Details

Seeing Redline for the first time remains one of my most amazing experiences in a cinema*, it's one of those movies - like Brain Dead, The Lighthouse or Everything Everywhere All at Once - where the insanity keeps ramping up every 15 minutes in ways you can't expect yet somehow still makes sense.

The plot? Once every five years, the greatest racers in the galaxy take part in the ultimate car race, the Redline. No holds are barred and the movie follows several of the main contenders as they seek to win gold. But the movie is really about non-stop movement and speed: it runs at 100 miles an hour with every frame hand drawn - which is why it took seven years to make - with a booming techno soundtrack. It needs to be seen on a big screen.

Tickets here, I'm in B5. We can meet around the corner for a pre-drink at 8pm and head in afterwards.

*I saw it two years ago within a month of The Cranes are Flying, and both were astonishing. But while TCAF was the kind of experience where an entire cinema was left in silence, with tears everywhere, this was the opposite. An explosion of noise once the lights came up. Hell, it took everything I had not to stand up and cheer at the film's peak. No spoilers though, obviously.
