[LJF 2023] Hiromi's Sonicwonder @ The Barbican
Details
It's a number of months away, but always worth thinking ahead for London Jazz Festival 2023, especially if you don't want to miss out on some of the great acts playing this year.
One instance: the Japanese jazz pocket rocket Hiromi, who's playing in a new electric-only 4-piece outfit, Sonicwonder, comprising Adam O’Farrill on trumpet, Hadrien Feraud on bass (who's great), and Gene Coye on drums.
Hiromi’s ability to spin intricate melodies and fuse genres in her own bedazzling personal style make her a standout in modern-day jazz; I've hosted maybe two or three meetups to see Hiromi over the past decade or more, and they've always been great fun. She is an absolute beast on the keyboard - even though physically she's tiny - and some of the melodic plays she pulls off have to bee seen to be believed.
Haven't seen her with this new line-up, so should be interesting to check it out with members.
It's at the Barbican, so usual Barbican prices: I've booked a mid-price circle ticket in row J8; any members joining me are welcome to purchase a ticket next to/nearby, so we can enjoy the gig together (please indicate which seat you've purchased when signing up; only signup if you have a ticket or DEFINITELY intend to purchase one, as I'm going to limit numbers simply for logistical ease.
Plenty of time ahead of the gig or after to meet together for a drink either nearby or in the venue, chat, and share thoughts about the gig before, and certainly after.
Booking information. Note: judging from the website, this is already about 75% sold out, so if you're interested, get your bookings in soon (as of 4 June).
