Jazz on the Plaza opens the year with an intimate duo concert featuring acclaimed guitarist Deirdre Cartwright and pianist Terence Collie. Set in a beautifully close, listening-room environment with a stunning Fazioli grand piano, this special evening brings audiences right into the heart of the music.
Deirdre Cartwright is one of the UK’s most respected jazz guitarists, composers and broadcasters, widely known for her lyrical playing, genre-spanning collaborations and long-standing contribution to the jazz scene both on stage and on air. She has recorded five albums with her own group and played festivals from Mexico to Warsaw. She has played with Tal Farlow, toured with Jamaican composer Marjorie Whylie, founded Blow the Fuse with Alison Rayner and presented on BBC Radio 3. She also presented BBC TV’s groundbreaking series Rockschool, has written seven books on guitar playing, was head of guitar syllabus for the Rockschool exam series and won the public vote for Guitar in the 2019 British Jazz Awards.
