About us
LoMAZ is a friendly, diverse and inclusive group of people who enjoy visiting museums, bookended by a trip to a café and a pub. The group is for Gen X and Millennials who were born in the years 1965-1996. If you like history, exploring places and meeting people, please come along.
Our events are run by a group of volunteers who maintain a full calendar catering to a wide range of tastes and interest. Our events include:
- Our regular museum events, which have an attendee limit as we prefer smaller, friendlier groups where people can get to know each other.
- Our monthly 'Unlimited' museum events where we have no attendee limit and we explore just one room in a museum, followed by a pub social.
- Our monthly 'Lates For Dates' museum event, which - unlike our other events - is for singles only. This is typically on the last Friday of the month and has no attendee limit. It is a mixed orientation event for straight and LGBTQI+ singles born between 1965-1996.
How does LoMAZ work?
Our regular museum events:
For each event, we meet in a nearby café 30-45 minutes earlier. We then go to the museum/exhibition, where you are free to wander around at your own pace. Afterwards, we head to a nearby pub for a social chit-chat. The café and pub social are optional, so it’s fine if you just prefer to join us for the museum visit.
Each event listing will give you all the details, plus an event WhatsApp group you can join to help you find the group.
Tickets:
If a museum/exhibition has an entry fee, you’ll need to buy your own ticket. Each event will tell you whether you need to buy this in advance and provide the ticket link.
Event attendee limit:
Our regular LoMAZ events have an attendee limit per event because we prefer a smaller, friendlier group where members can get to know each other. It also helps the host manage the event and organise the pub bookings.
If an event is full, you'll be added to the waitlist. If someone drops out, waitlisted members are automatically moved into the ‘Going’ list in order of priority.
Rules & Etiquette:
To ensure everyone gets a fair chance, we ask that you observe these points of etiquette:
- If you can no longer attend an event, please change your RSVP to "No" as soon as possible. This frees up a space for someone on the waitlist.
- Only attend if you're on the ‘Going’ list. Do not turn up if you are on the waitlist.
- Only join the event WhatsApp group if you are on the ‘Going’ list, not the waitlist.
We remove members from the LoMAZ Meetup group who:
- RSVP as ‘Going' but then do not show up three times in a row.
- RSVP as ‘Going' but then change their RSVP to 'No' five times in a row.
- Turn up at an event without being on the 'going' list (i.e. members who have not signed up or are on the waitlist).
Our group is committed to creating a respectful and safe inclusive environment for all members. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
Respectful Communication Rule:
To maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, members must not send excessive or unsolicited private messages—especially to people they haven’t met in person at an event. This includes repeated messages without a response or contacting multiple members in a short period. If we receive reports of such behaviour, it may lead to a warning or immediate removal from the group, depending on the severity. Our goal is to ensure all members feel comfortable and respected.
Best wishes,
The Admin Team

B is for Blitz: the Club that shaped the 80s @ Design Museum
Design Museum, 224 Kensington High St,, London, GB"We lived for the subculture and we were the subculture." – Boy George.
Join us at the Design Museum for a major exhibition on the legendary Blitz club night that transformed 1980s London style, and generated a creative scene that had an enormous impact on popular culture in the decade that followed – from fashion and music, to film, art and design.
Behind a door in a Covent Garden side street, the Blitz club was the place where 1980s style began. Inspired by everything from David Bowie, the punk and soul scenes, to continental cinema and cabaret culture, the brightest young talents of their generation came together to revolutionise fashion, music and design, turning a niche club night into a launchpad for global superstardom.
The scene launched the careers of many stars, including chart-topping performers Spandau Ballet, Visage, Boy George and Marilyn as well as a long list of designers, artists, filmmakers and writers — from couture milliner Stephen Jones and Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton, to DJ and fashion writer Princess Julia and BBC broadcaster Robert Elms.
Forty years after its closure, visitors can revisit the trailblazing club's history and atmosphere with a sensory extravaganza of music, flamboyant fashions, and pioneering art, film, and graphic design.
Developed in close collaboration with some of the leading ‘Blitz Kids’ who were there, the exhibition features over 250 items, ranging from clothing and accessories, design sketches, musical instruments, flyers, magazines, furniture, artworks, photography, vinyl records and rare film footage.
