What we’re about
LoMAZ is a friendly, diverse and inclusive group of people who enjoy visiting museums, bookended by a trip to a café and a pub. The group is for Gen X and Millennials who were born in the years 1965-1996. If you like history, exploring places and meeting people, please come along.
Our events are run by a group of volunteers who maintain a full calendar catering to a wide range of tastes and interest. Our events include:
- Our regular museum events, which have an attendee limit as we prefer smaller, friendlier groups where people can get to know each other.
- Our monthly 'Unlimited' museum events where we have no attendee limit and we explore just one room in a museum, followed by a pub social.
- Our monthly 'Lates For Dates' museum event, which - unlike our other events - is for singles only. This is typically on the last Friday of the month and has no attendee limit. It is a mixed orientation event for straight and LGBTQI+ singles born between 1965-1996.
How does LoMAZ work?
Our regular museum events:
For each event, we meet in a nearby café 30-45 minutes earlier. We then go to the museum/exhibition, where you are free to wander around at your own pace. Afterwards, we head to a nearby pub for a social chit-chat. The café and pub social are optional, so it’s fine if you just prefer to join us for the museum visit.
Each event listing will give you all the details, plus an event WhatsApp group you can join to help you find the group.
Tickets:
If a museum/exhibition has an entry fee, you’ll need to buy your own ticket. Each event will tell you whether you need to buy this in advance and provide the ticket link.
Event attendee limit:
Our regular LoMAZ events have an attendee limit per event because we prefer a smaller, friendlier group where members can get to know each other. It also helps the host manage the event and organise the pub bookings.
If an event is full, you'll be added to the waitlist. If someone drops out, waitlisted members are automatically moved into the ‘Going’ list in order of priority.
Rules & Etiquette:
To ensure everyone gets a fair chance, we ask that you observe these points of etiquette:
- If you can no longer attend an event, please change your RSVP to "No" as soon as possible. This frees up a space for someone on the waitlist.
- Only attend if you're on the ‘Going’ list. Do not turn up if you are on the waitlist.
- Only join the event WhatsApp group if you are on the ‘Going’ list, not the waitlist.
We remove members from the LoMAZ Meetup group who:
- RSVP as ‘Going' but then do not show up three times in a row.
- RSVP as ‘Going' but then change their RSVP to 'No' five times in a row.
- Turn up at an event without being on the 'going' list (i.e. members who have not signed up or are on the waitlist).
Our group is committed to creating a respectful and safe inclusive environment for all members. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
Respectful Communication Rule:
To maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, members must not send excessive or unsolicited private messages—especially to people they haven’t met in person at an event. This includes repeated messages without a response or contacting multiple members in a short period. If we receive reports of such behaviour, it may lead to a warning or immediate removal from the group, depending on the severity. Our goal is to ensure all members feel comfortable and respected.
Best wishes,
The Admin Team

E is for Emergency Exits: The Fight for Independence @ Imperial War Museum
Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London, GBJoin us at Emergency Exits: The Fight for Independence in Malaya, Kenya and Cyprus at the Imperial War Museum, London.
(Fancy the museum, but not this exhibition? Feel free to sign up and just visit the museum sections you want to see.)
Emergency Exits focuses on three wars in the 1950s: in Malaya (now Malaysia), Kenya and Cyprus. It explores the motivations of key figures, the responses of the British colonial authorities and how these conflicts affected ordinary people.
You’ll hear stories from people on different sides as they share their thoughts on the wars that shaped their lives.
The exhibition also explores the British Government’s attempts to prevent documents relating to the conflicts from being published. In 2011, following a long battle by campaigners, the Government revealed that thousands of these files were still held in a secure archive. Emergency Exits helps unpick the path towards recognition in the UK.
Please note: Sections of this exhibition contain themes including racism, sexual violence and torture.

T is for…Thirst: In Search of Freshwater 🌊
The Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road NW1, London, GB“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” - W.H. Auden
Join us on Sunday 11th January at Thirst: In Search Of Freshwater, a FREE exhibition at the Wellcome Collection on Euston Road.
Thirst explores humanity’s ancient, urgent and intimate relationship with freshwater.
With only 3% of the world’s water being freshwater, this exhibition dives into how our bodies, communities and ecosystems depend on this precious resource, and what happens when we mismanage it.
Travelling from ancient Mesopotamia to Victorian London, and from Nepal to Singapore, Thirst brings together 125 fascinating objects, including historical artefacts, contemporary materials, environmental data, and artworks.
Expect:
💧 Exquisite medieval water-filtering vessels carved with animals and inscribed with words of wisdom
💧 A Mesopotamian wedding blanket whose floral patterns reappear in a modern wastewater garden design
💧 Atmospheric photographs and films revealing communities’ relationships with water
💧 Striking large-scale models showing the impact of groundwater depletion in global megacities
Immerse yourself in a sweeping story of culture, climate, health and survival, and our shared future.
