O is for... Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret

Details

Let's go to the Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret for a talk to take you back to the Victorian era, and explore surgical procedures that were once carried out.

(Note: this is the first of two separate events today, the second being 'LoMAZ Extra: City of London Walking Tour Saturday 28th June @ 2pm'. You are welcome to join both events, but you'll need to sign up to each one individually).

The talk shall be delivered in the oldest surviving surgical theatre in Europe, you will see the original space located in the attic of an 18th century church, where up to 150 medical students would have once gathered and learned their trade.

  • Tickets cost £12 and include entry to the Museum.
  • You need to buy a ticket using website link below, and confirm you have done so on your RSVP.
  • Doors open at 09:45 for a 10:00 am start.
  • Access is through a 52-step spiral staircase.

(This is an early event, I know! As the museum is small it seemed better to have a talk to make more of the visit. There is only one talk this day, or month for that matter, which starts at 10am. I have not specifically sought this earlier than normal start time!)

SCHEDULE:
9:30am: Meet at cafe (optional)
Pret A Manger
11-15 Borough High St, London SE1 9SE
9:50am: Meet outside museum
10:00am: Talk begins
10:45am: Explore the museum
12:00pm: Pub meet (optional) - The Mudlark
Montague Cl, London SE1 9DA
13:00pm: Finish
(Unless you are joining the City of London Walking Tour, which starts at 14:00pm! Meet from 13:20pm at the Pret near Monument - sign up for this on the separate LoMAZ event. At the end of the walk there shall be a pub visit with a longer time to sit and relax.)
